Tess Jacobson is a swedish illustrator and graphic designer, living in Luxembourg. Tess creates stunning work mixing different techniques. We love her sense of colors. Powerful, bright and vivid coloring is very fresh, reminding us about Latin America’s paintings from the past century. Observing her surrounding, Tess creates imprints of modern youth life.
L: Fill in the blank: “When I am working in my studio, I feel…”
Tess: That I´ve made the best choice of profession ever. I feel peace and I´m always inspired even though I don´t have much to do!
L: If you had to make a mix-tape of songs that inspire you now, what would they be?
Tess: I listen to so many different music styles so it´s hard to tell…but I love House music, Indie pop and almost everything besides Hard rock.
L: What advice would you give to young aspiring illustrators? What was the best advice you ever received?
Tess: My advice is to always challenge yourself to develop. Be hungry and it´s always easier to breakthrough if you have an agency behind you who knows all the legally stuff and can help you with cost estimates. And also to find your own style is very important.
Be inspired by others, but do something completely different and that distinguishes you!
L: What are your «special places for dreaming» in Bertrange?
Tess: Bertrange is in the countryside, so for me it´s just to go outside and walk around the pastures that makes me feel inspired.
L: There are flowers in most of your works, are they the element of decor or?
Tess: Good question…I simply love flowers and their different shapes, and it often softens things up. My signature look is to be romantic with a retro appearance, people often says. But sometimes I actually do illustrations without flowers too:)
L: Can you tell us about illustration market in Luxembourg? Do you have lots orders for illustrations?
Tess: To be honest I have only had one illustration client in Luxembourg. Most of my clients are swedish, since I´m swedish, but I have also had clients all around Europe. Luxembourg is not so big, so the illustration market is unfortunately kind of limited. I have an agency in Sweden who have promoted me and given me jobs. So it depends on the market and trends, sometimes you have a lot of work and sometimes less.
L: And our special question. Imagine that you are sweets, what kind it would be and why?:)
Tess: I would be a cupcake, they are esthetically nice to look at and they taste good!
Thank you Tess!
